Intro:

Last week, the Cumbre Tajín festival on Mexico’s east coast wrapped up its 14th edition.

Inspired by European events like WOMAD, it was intended as a one-off back in 2000.

Now, people from far and wide flock to this unique festival. It celebrates the region’s indigenous heritage with thousands of activities – combined with a distinctly popular musical lineup on the main stage.

We sent Frederick Bernas to examine this intriguing culture clash.
